Susie
Artist | I was born and raised in Laurel, MS. I don’t remember a time when I wasn’t drawing, painting, dancing and I was an avid tennis player. I was the kid in class who was always daydreaming, doodling, having difficulties sitting still and continuously voted class clown. Before college I spent a few carefree years wandering around the US stopping wherever the climate suited my clothes, some might say I was a vagabond of sorts. Eventually I made my way back to Hattiesburg MS and graduated from Clown College….just kidding! I got my degree from Southern Miss (To The Top!) in Recreation Management and a minor in dance and psychology. I worked as a Certified Recreation Specialist for many years in a variety of settings and with people of all ages and abilities. I truly love finding out what people enjoy doing or would like to do and adapting or creating a way to make that possible. There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing the pure joy on their faces when they accomplish a goal or create something they never thought possible. I’ve been an artist at PWAT for about 2 years and I am so grateful to be a part of such a unique and beautiful family. I also have a side hustle doing commission artwork and customized murals (mostly nurseries, bedrooms, game rooms). Give me a wall and I’ll paint it….just ask my 2 lovely kiddos how many walls were painted during the quarantine. I need art like I need my oxygen! It is a vital part of who I am and is also my favorite escape from reality. These days it’s especially important for all of us to escape, be creative and let our silly side come out to play. Come escape with me, dance a little, laugh a lot while creating something beautiful. I may even show off my juggling skills during class, who knows!?
